Desormeaux rode like amateur

Big Brown's loss in the Belmont left everyone wondering what happened.

Some wondered if the horse were injured or if the hoof issue was worse than reported.

Some wondered if not taking that steriod shot which the horse had been accustomed too before a race was the problem.

From where I'm sitting Kent Desormeaux was the problem.

Within the first half mile Desormeaux yanked so hard on the reigns to get Big Brown to move around on the track that he did what is referred to as choking the horse.  He took the wind out of his throat and after doing that to a horse a couple of times a horse will spit the bit and then they are done and that in my opinion is what happened.

It was a long race.  Desormeaux could have waited patiently on the rail but instead he freaked out Big Brown with his behavior.

Desormeaux rode Big Brown like a Merry-Go-Round horse like a 7-year old would.

I'm not a horse person. I like watching the races, but that's it. That being said your theory (which is also the trainer's theory by the way) is hogwash. No one wanted to win more than Desormeaux. He is a veteran jockey. He knew the horse, he knew what to do. These are animals, not athletes. It's possible that Big Brown was just rank that day and in an irritatable mood.

Desormeaux is an accomplished jockey. Dutrow seems to be a Johnny-come-lately, and a major league jerkwad that stumbled into a potentially great horse (and those are the nice things I could say about him). Between the two, I'll side with Desormeaux any day of the week over Dutrow. I'm still not buying that the horse was healthy; even if he was, it's entirely possible that the horse just wasn't that good, and he's just been very successful against middling competition. I just have a hard time blaming the jockey on this one.

As if Dutrow wasn't already hated enough by horsemen, now this. Desormeaux is a first class jockey and one of the best riders going right now. He had the horse's best interest in mind. On a side note, did you see Dutrow sweat, dude needs to worry about some deodorant.

I've seen some veteran jockeys side with Dutrow on this issue as well, but I'm still on the side of Kent. He's been riding horses for a long time and this was his second chance at a Triple Crown. Dutrow just has to look to place the blame somewhere and unfortunately, Kent is getting the brunt of it.

Regardless of how great Desormeaux is, when you choke out a horse it is going to stop running. So while his actions may have been to win, his execution is what resulted in defeat in my opinion. Horses get spooked easy and choking one out would do it.
