Henry released by the Bengals

Well, I guess he really messed up this time.  Just about 12 hours after Chris Henry turned himself in on assault charges, the Bengals released him.  Henry came to the Bengals in the 2005 NFL Draft and just didn't stay out of trouble the entire time he was here.  A list of his infractions include:

December 2005 - Speeding, No auto insurance, No valid license, Drug Possession

January 2006 - Concealment and aggravated assault with a firearm while wearing his jersey

June 2006 - DUI, thrown out due to faulty breathalyzer

September 2006 - Drunk in the back of Odell Thurman's truck

January 2007 - Providing alcohol to minors

There are more, but I don't have the time nor the effort to put them on here.  I think the Bengals made the right move.  There is no way they could have kept any sense of respect around the league if Henry would have been allowed to continue. He was given his ultimatum by Roger Goddell and it seems Henry is just too young or stupid or whatever to try and stay clean.

The problem now becomes the receiving corps.  Behind T.J Houshmanzedeh you have a disgruntled Chad Johnson and an oft-injured Antonio Chatman.  I guess we may see a receiver or two in the draft.

Official statement from Bengals' owner Mike Brown:

"Chris Henry has forfeited his opportunity to pursue a career with the Bengals. His conduct can no longer be tolerated."

"The Bengals tried for an extended period of time to support Chris and his potentially bright career.  We had hoped to guide him toward an appropriate standard of personal responsibility that this community would support and that would allow him to play in the NFL. We acknowledge those fans who had concerns about Chris; at the same time we tried to help a young man."

"But those efforts end today, as we move on with what is best for our team."

it just blows me away how stupid some of these punks are. They can teach a monkey sign language, but they can't teach these kids how to stay out of trouble? How hard is it? I've gone 35 years without being arrested. I mean seriously, how stupid are you? What needs to happen is the NFL should indefinitely suspend him (no money) and a hard ass judge needs to throw the book at him. Henry has not once had to face actual consequences for his actions. It's time to pay the piper you jackass!

Chris Henry is a joke. I was one to keep giving his chances because of his talent level and my greed, but after watching his piss poor effort and coming back from an 8-game suspension last season, this team is better off without him.

The real question is how long until Al Davis and the Oakland Raiders sign him?
