I failed bracketology

Every year in my NCAA brackets, I start off like gang busters. Even predicting a couple of the upsets. But every year, by the time the Sweet 16 is set, I've hitched my wagon to the wrong team and am looking at brackets that won't keep me in the money. I just put my two brackets through the shredder as they both had Georgetown in the Final Four, and one had G-Town losing the national championship to UCLA. Thanks for playing and thanks for donating.

So, why do I do it every year? I watch a limited amount of college basketball. I don't read up on all the teams. I put a relatively educated guess into my brackets. But every year, I stink at this, and sit and watch while some guys' 7-year-old daughter guessed her way to MY MONEY. So, is it all dumb luck? Who the hell would've thought that Davidson would beat a very well-coached and very experienced Georgetown team who was in the Final Four last year. No reason to think they wouldn't go back. Sigh. Time to start getting ready for baseball now, I suppose.

Actually after Friday night, I thought my bracket for this year was done. That would have been the first time in about 5 or 6 years that I would have been finished that early.

I had Arizona over WVU (not too bad because I believed either one of those teams would beat Duke in Round 2, and I was right), I had Drake in the Sweet 16 (damn 38-foot handoff heave ended that), then I had Clemson going to the Elite 8 (oops, guess I just didn't imagine that they would build up an 18-pt. lead, turnover Nova 20 times, and still find a way to LOSE THE GAME).

But thanks to all the other upsets, mainly Davidson over G'Town, it has brought the pack back to me. I still have 10 of my Sweet 16, all of my Elite 8 and all of my Final Four picks still in it.

So I have a puncher's chance of making up the early round point losses.

I have 11 of my Sweet 16, but only half of my Championship teams (thanks Davidson). 3 out 4 Final Four teams and 1 out of 2 national title game teams isn't going to win you the $$$$.

You guys are sitting a little bit prettier than I am in my bracket. I have 9 of my sweet 16 left. I lost Clemson, Kansas State, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Drake, Duke and Pittsburgh. I only have 5 of my Elite 8 left: losing Georgetown, Duke and Pitt. I have all of my final four in tact though but I think at this point I'm out of the running in my bracket pool at work. I lost 10 teams in the first round. The two that really hurt me were Drake and Clemson.

I normally do well in the bracket pools, I just picked the wrong upsets this year. Davidson and Western KY I'm sure have busted a lot of brackets...possibly Villanove too. But I'll keep doing a bracket and entering a pool every year for the fun of it.

Question is, how many people do one bracket for everything they enter? Or do you do a different bracket with different picks in each pool you enter? I just do the one...that way I can claim my upsets.

I played in three pools this year. For the first time, I played pretty much the same one in each pool - my final 8 was identical, I just tweaked a few first/second round games here and there. Amazingly that worked out pretty well, I got Western KY and only had Georgetown going to the Sweet 16 - this is pretty unusual, I'm usually out by 3:30 on Thursday.

For most pools, especially the ones that do the 1-2-4-8-16-32 format, as long as you have your final four alive you're in the game. This coming weekend is where things really get shaken up, and I (and I'll guess J-Fish as well) am going to be sweating bullets over Wisconsin and Texas.
