Ocho's "act" needs to go

by Jason Fightmaster 2/8/2008 3:20:00 PM

OK.  Now Chad is shoving journalists and going down the wrong path.  I remember listening to Jim Rome last week after Chad said he was thinking about sitting out the season.  Romey said that Chad could choose two paths - chill out and keep his mouth shut or keep talking and further alienate himself.  Well, it seems as if he's chosen the latter.

I have been a staunch Chad supporter and have loved his celebrations, pepto-bismol sending, and definitely his touchdowns, but not any longer.  I'll drive him to Miami, Oakland, or where ever else he wants to go.  I've had enough, and if you haven't - why the heck not?  For the good of this franchise, we've got to let him go.  Yes, his talent will be missed, but to be honest, aren't wide receivers a dime a dozen in the NFL?  Shoot, if Wes Welker can have the season he had, can't Glen Holt do the same?

Another question that I have is the fact that the Bengals are refusing to say anything.  Yeah, I know they are usually tight-lipped about everything, but for their most well-known player to publicly say he wants to play elsewhere is just another reason to be the butt of more jokes.  Of course, it's probably for the best because we would just hear Marvin's nervous laugh over and over again anyway.

I do know the salary cap hit would be huge, and I understand that it doesn't make any sense to move Chad in any way, but something has to change.  Fines, benchings, gag orders, muzzles, something has to be done.  To sit around and do nothing is more embarassing than what has already happened.

Here's a novel idea. How about Marvin say something. Address it with Chad. After the PRo Bowl, beckon him to the office. Sit down and hash it out. Marvin is as much to blame. I don't believe that Marvin is leaking stuff to the media though, as Marvin seems to have a disdain for our media anyway. This is like a family feud where both parties are being petty and stubborn. Somebody has to be the bigger person. I don't think Chad can be the bigger person. That has to be Marvin, especially since he's the coach. Just proof that this isn't Marvin's team any more. He lost them a while ago and the results show on the field. Either go Marvin, or get control.

You may not have to worry about the Bengals doing anything this time. If the reports are true, he didn't shove a journalist, he shoved a NFL Public Relations employee.

You do that and you incur the rath of Goodell. Seeing as the history between Bengals players and Commissioner Goodell haven't been so rosey, I would say there's a chance that Chad just wrote a check his butt can't cash.

But there is no doubt you can't let him into that locker room next season under any circumstances. Not if you have any hope of making the playoffs.

It was kind of funny and endearing when he did the celebrations and all that, but now he's crossed the line into a full blown jackass. No need to keep him around any longer.

BTW, I'm hardly a cap expert, but from what I've read Mark Curnutte's calculation of the cap hit is overstated. If they play it right (I know that requires having some faith that Mike Brown knows what he's doing but indulge me), the hit would be significantly less than the $8M he's stated, and they could possibly spread it out over two years.

Who cares if trading Chad is a cap hit. It's not like the Bungals will spend that money in free agency anyway....That's the same reason they need to Franchise Justin Smith again.

Who cares if they trade Chad or not. It's not like they will use that money to sign a worthwhile free agent anyway.....Same reason they should go ahead and Franchsie Justin Smith again.
