Geoff Baker of the Seattle Times is reporting that the Baltimore Orioles have dealt pitcher Erik Bedard, who the Reds have coveted, to the Seattle Mariners for a package centered around super prospect outfielder Adam Jones.
I'm not saying I would have definitely given up Reds prospect Jay Bruce at the drop of a hat, but Bruce and Jones are pretty much considered equals in the baseball world, and apparently the M's decided it was worth it to make the deal. If Bedard lights it up in Seattle (given Safeco Field's reputation as a pitcher's park, that's a pretty good bet) and Bruce struggles in his first major league stint, it's not going to look good for Reds G.M. Wayne Krivsky, who already has enough pressure to deal with as it is. It may not be fair, but that's how it'll be if things work out like that.
On the M's side, I would not want to have to face down Bedard and King Felix on back-to-back days. This definitely puts them closer to the Angels in the AL West.
