Sibert Picks Ohio State

by Dan Clasgens 9/20/2008 8:57:00 PM

from QueenCityHigh.com, Cincinnati's Rivals.com high school sports website:

Five-star shooting guard Jordan Sibert has dazzled on the high school court for Princeton and now he plans to do the same at Ohio State. He committed to the Buckeyes after a visit this weekend.

After narrowing down his list earlier in the week, Sibert made his first trip to OSU, and said it felt like home so he decided to commit.

"I just had a good feeling," said Sibert about why he committed. "Jared being up there was important, and the feeling was great. I did my research on them. I asked Coach Matta a lot of questions and where he thought the team would be. I talked to my family before, and I talked to the head coach of my AAU team. They said wherever I feel comfortable and that was it."

There are plenty of injuries fantasy owners need to know about, here are the names you need to keep your eyes on leading upto kickoff:

Laurence Maroney - I would be surprised if he plays
Justin Fargas - Forget about it, will not play in Buffalo
LaMont Jordan - Listed as doubtful and won't be a factor

Wide Receivers
Braylon Edwards - Limited in practice, but expected to start
Laveranues Coles - Set start on MNF at San Diego

Cubs Clinch NL Central

by Dan Clasgens 9/20/2008 7:58:00 PM

Not that it was a surprise, but the Chicago Cubs clinched the NL Central for the second consecutive season with a win on Saturday...

from the Chicago Sun-Times:
They did it without their $136 million leadoff man for two months. They did it without their All-Star closer for a month in the middle of the season.

They did it despite ace Carlos Zambrano missing time in June and September because of shoulder problems and despite not getting Brian Roberts and, sometimes, despite themselves.

Their 5-4 victory over the rival St. Louis Cardinals, behind seven innings from starter Ted Lilly (16-9) and the shutout pitching of setup-closer combo Carlos Marmol and Kerry Wood, gave the Cubs their earliest clinching party since also clinching on Sept. 20 in 1932.

Trendspotter: Week 3

by Jim Humbert 9/20/2008 10:23:00 AM
You may have already heard a few of these statistical trends in the FANTASY PLAYBOOK PODCAST, but here are a few more for you to think about this weekend.

LaDainian Tomlinson - Bad toe aside, LT is no stranger to getting off to a slow start. Last season he had just 68 rushing yards through two games. In 2005 he had just 124 and in 2003 only 127 yards in the first two weeks combined.

Detroit Defense - The Lions have allowed each of their last eight opponents to score at least 20 points. In those games they gave up a total of 294 points which is an average of just under 37 per game.

Reggie Wayne - The Colts WR has averaged 112 yards in his last five games against the Jaguars. However he has scored just three times in 12 games against the division rival. His touchdown at home last year was his first versus the Jags since 2003.

Kyle Orton - In 10 home games started by the Bears QB he has averaged 113.8 ypg with 8 TD and 10 interceptions. However, the Bears won nine of those ten and eight in a row.

Seattle Defense - The Seahawks have struggled on D this year allowing 33 and 34 points in their first two games. But they have played well against the Rams in recent times. Last year at home they held the Rams to just six points. They sacked Marc Bulger seven times in that game, four by Darryl  Tapp, and picked him off three times. Bulger has thrown just one interception in the first two games this year but has already been sacked 10 times - the second highest total in the league.

Derek Anderson - In his last nine games the Browns QB has 10 TD and 12 interceptions. In five of his last six games he was held to under 200 passing yards, including both games this year.

Houston Running Backs - In their last four trips to Tennessee the Texans have had four different leading rushers. Ron Dayne had 86 yards and a touchdown last year. In 2006 Wali Lundy ran for 116 yards. In 2005 it was Dominick Williams with 130 yards. And in 2004 Jonathan Wells led the team with 73 yards and a score. That may be good news for Steve Slaton.

Giants Tight Ends - Without the presence of Jeremy Shockey, the Giants have not used their tight ends much in the first two games. No Giants TE has caught a pass yet this year and Kevin Boss has been targeted just three times.

Ben Roethlisberger - In 57 career starts Big Ben has thrown for more than 300 yards just five times. The Steelers lost the last four times he hit that mark and their only win came back in 2004 against the Giants. In those 300+ yard passing games Roethlisberger threw eight touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
