Fantasy: Know The Enemy

There have been numerous posts on here about certain strategies and Dan's Fantasy 101 advice is top-notch. However, just as important is knowing who you're drafting against. If it's an annual league, you have probably learned what certain guys like to do during a draft. What were their patterns? Do they love RBs? Do they draft best available? Do they draft players from their favorite team? It's important to know these things. In a couple of my leagues I've been in them for years and well, I can usually know who certain owners will draft/target. This helps me immensely in my draft preparation and helps me determine if I should hold off for another round on a guy I covet. In one league, one owner has brought his teenage son into the league. While it's great to have young blood, his presence last year threw me off because his inexperience showed through when he drafted three QBs back-to-back-to-back. I wasn't expecting a second QB taken, let alone a third, so I didn't take who I wanted (Tony Romo) and it cost me. So be aware of the wildcard coaches. While going into a draft armed with this knowledge is helpful and gives you a slight edge, always expect the unexpected. And don't get too overconfident. As John Madden would say, half the game is 50% luck.
