Now you know where to find P-Dub

Admit it, the number one thing on your mind during this two week wait for the Super Bowl has been, "what's Peter Warrick up to nowadays?".

Well, wonder no more.  In just a few short months, you'll be able to watch (theoretically at least) Warrick play for Team Florida in something called the All-American Football League

What, you say, is the AAFL?  Well, according to its website, the AAFL is a professional football league that is looking to strike up a quasi-relationship with Division I-A NCAA football programs.  There are six current franchises: Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, and the aforementioned Florida squad.  The majority of each team's initial players will come from local college squads, and then the rest of the roster will be filled through the league entry draft, which is occuring today.

There are some recognizable names associated with the league.  Bengals fans will recognize former Cincy receiver Willie Jackson, and the Florida head coach is former Bengals QB Shane Matthews.  Defensive back Reggie Myles (who most Bengal fans would like to forget) is considered to be one of the Alabama squad's best players.  And those who remember the University of Houston squads of the early 90's will recognize Texas head coach John Jenkins, who was one of the most distasteful personalities in collegiate football history - though if it's any consolation, the years have not been too kind to him:

Other notable names include Chris Leak, Fred Weary, B.J. Symons, Andy Kelly, and Clint Stoerner.

Notice that most of these players can be described best by paraphrasing a quote from Major League: they either are past their prime, or they never had a prime.  This should make it easier for our guy P-Dub, who hasn't played competitive football in over two years, to make an impact in the fledgling league.  With his knees, he'll need all the help he can get.

NBA All-Stars; one man's guess at the rosters

by Adam Bartel 1/26/2008 11:34:00 AM

With the starters being announced Thursday (and the fans did a pretty good job picking them, for the most part), here's my picks for the benches for both conferences:

Eastern Conference

Starters: Dwyane Wade (even having missed several games, still an elite player), Jason Kidd (bad choice - guy's shooting under 37% and committing more turnovers than he has in 10 years), Kevin Garnett (completely rejuvinated in Boston), LeBron James (playing out of this world ball), Dwight Howard (Big Baby Jesus has officially arrived)

Reserves: Richard Hamilton (steady as always), Chauncey Billups (quietly having his best season ever), Jose Calderon (best player you've never heard of), Chris Bosh (even without his Youtube campaign he should be a lock), Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison (both guys picking up Arenas' slack quite nicely), Josh Smith (Hawks probably should get two in, but Smith has been a more complete player than Joe Johnson so far)

Western Conference

Starters: Kobe Bryant (still the league's best scorer), Allen Iverson (hasn't hit the wall yet at age 32), Carmelo Anthony (probably shouldn't be a starter, but definitely deserves to be in the game), Tim Duncan (might be taking a step back), Yao Ming (becoming the player the experts thought he would be)

Reserves: Steve Nash, Chris Paul (both no-brainers, Paul is developing into a perennial All-Star, and it's showing in New Orleans' 30-12 record) Baron Davis (has completely embraced the leadership role in Golden State), Carlos Boozer (a poor man's Charles Barkley now), Dirk Nowitzki (coming around after a rough start to the season), Brandon Roy (need to give a little love to Portland, Roy's developed about a year sooner than expected), Marcus Camby (tough call between him and Chris Kaman, but he's become such a force defensively you can't ignore him)
